Red Varieties
Canada Long (New) $3.50

I have grown Canada Long for many years, but never listed it until this year. It always produces well and they were so amazing this year I thought why not list them. A 4to5 inch long "pepper" shaped tomato that could be called a paste type, but it tastes wonderful fresh too.
As with all elongated varieties, watch out for blossom end rot.
Legend (New) $3.50

Legend is a well known determinate, that is a productive, early, solid 6oz red ball. It was the first in the greenhouse and one of the first in the field this year. Very strong production all season,I liked it..it's a great all around tomato great flavour too.
Matilda (New) $3.50

Thanks to Mr. Reno for sharing this variety with me. It's from Australia, and although the plant has a rather delicate structure, it really produces! In the greenhouse,6inch X 4inch long tomatoes, that are juicy and flavourful. In the field, they were smaller, but still productive. This is not a paste type, but is really delicious sliced on a sandwich.
Poire Rouge Franchi (New) $3.50

A large heavy, 5 inch, solid, pear shaped paste type from Italy originally. Very productive and great for sauce or canning.

This is another great little variety from Serbia from my friend Alex. A very strong determinate plant that produces lots of beautiful orange/red round 6-8oz tomatoes all season out in the field.

Ailsa Craig $3.50

An excellent very early 2" red tomato. Wonderful flavour and very reliable. Indeterminate. Developed in Scotland early in the century for the greenhouse trade. As early as Stupice, but tastes way better! The chefs love this one. A top 10.

Medium red strawberry shaped tomato. Great flavour. Beautiful, early to midseason Indeterminate. Rare. From Portugal. Has some disease resistance.
Apple of Novi Sad $3.50

Another great Tomato from Serbia. These plants were started late, but still produced a wonderful large crop of beautiful Red Tomatoes. After growing in a different part of the field, they are quite a larger plant than I previously thought! and Once again, a very nice crop in a poor season!
Boxcar Willie $3.50

It is said this tomato was the favourite stolen tomato of the famous Hobo of the same name. He had good taste in tomatoes, because this one is a beautiful round red picture perfect tomato. Rich tangy flavour too. Mid to late season.
Cosmonaut Volkov $3.50

A flatish cushion shaped brick/red tomato, with very good flavour and great production. Named after the Russian spaceman. I love the intense "tomatoey" flavour of this one.
Cuostralee $3.50

I received seeds for Cuostralee from the late Chuck Wyatt in the early 1990's. It is a remarkable tomato- an heirloom from France. He said, great tomatoes on a "rampant" plant, and it certainly is.
Beautiful very large red beefsteaks with a supurb flavour. almost as good as German Red Strawberry.
We grow it in the greenhouse here.
Ethiopia $3.50

Huge red strawberry shaped tomato.Absolutely Great flavour. Beautiful, Late Indeterminate. Rare. A sport from Pineapple. We grow this one in the greenhouse. This year's favourite!
Keeping Tom $3.50

Small Indeterminate plant, productive tomato, that ripens slowly and stays in good shape long after harvesting. May Be picked part ripe and will ripen slowly in cool place. Oddly, it may often appear unripe, but when cut it will be bright red.

Thanks go to my dear friend Tina for sharing seed for Lisa King probably 15 years ago! Very large (5 inch), round beautifully shaped, wonderful red, old beefsteak type. Very good flavour, very productive, mid/late season. We grow in greenhouse. Determinate. Heirloom. Top 10.
Mountain Princess $3.50

This is a remarkable little plant, that I had not grown for a few years. I had forgotten just how good it is! A small determinate, that produces a large crop of 3 to 4 inch orange/red lovely firm tomatoes, with great flavour and a fine skin. All in a cool summer. I decided I had to relist it.
Good for containers or in the ground.
Nepal $3.50

Very good taste, a very productive variety. Beautiful, 3 1/2 in, round, red fruits. Very 'tomato-y".Seems to be quite weather dependent. So it can be variable as to performance, but in a good year it's wonderful! Indeterminate.
Obeyeyie $3.50

This little red tomato is from a village of the same name in Ghana. It is a sprawling determinate that doesn't need staking. It's solid, and versatile with great flavour and keeping qualities. High production. beautifully pleated.
Old Brooks $3.50
Old Brooks is an old Heirloom variety that produces a great late crop of 3 inch, solid red fruits on a small bush type plant. Intense tomato flavour. I think it's a determinate.
Opalka $3.50
Another great paste type. Typically 4-5"long with a pointy end. Pepper shaped.
A larger sturdy plant,producing many good large paste tomatoes. also good for keeping.
Rio Grande $3.50

A great paste tomato Developed in Mexico. This one is better tasting, earlier and more productive for us than Roma. determinate
Russian 117 $3.50

Another wonderful Russian variety. Russian 117 produces huge, dense, meaty, heartshaped tomatoes with superb flavour and very few seeds. The foliage can be rather sad looking. Grown in greenhouse here
Sophies Choice $3.50

Very early, nice size tomatoes on a very small "drapey" plant, Great flavour. Very productive great for pots, or in the ground. Developed in Alberta.Very reliable. Determinate. Endangered. Top 10.
St. Pierre $3.50

St. Pierre is a well known old French traditional variety. It is a firm red, 3 to 4 inches, with a very good flavour. A good all around variety for fresh use but it can be used for sauce and canning too. A sturdy regular leafed indeterminate. Fairly productive does well in cool springs.
Stupice $3.50

May be our earliest tomato. Red, mid sized. Good flavour, productive. Developed in Eastern Europe. (Former Czechoslovakia) Very reliable producer. Determinate.
Black Varieties
Japanese Black Trifle (New) $3.50

This is another lovely black variety. A flattened medium pear shape with intense flavour and good keeping qualities, keeps on producing.

Productive and strong plants produce beautiful deep purple great tasting tomatoes. Sweet tangy intense flavour. Look lovely sliced with Yellow Brandywine.
Black From Tula $3.50

Large purple colour, Beautiful globe shape, mid/late season. Delicious, flavour. productive Indeterminate. Rare. Top 10.
Black Plum $3.50

Rare, 2 1/2" red/black colour, plum shape, mid season, sweet flavour. Very productive, versatile cherry/paste type can be used fresh or cooked. Indeterminate.
Black Prince $3.50

Rare, 3"oval, red/black colour, mid season. Pleasant,tangy sweet smoky flavour. A Popular, productive variety. Quite reliable outside. Indeterminate. Rare.
Black Zebra $3.50

Very unusual Mahogany colour with orangy
stripes. Dark interior. Deep delicious tangy flavour. Attractive in the garden, I would say it's more of a novelty. early/midseason
Sarah Black $3.50
Sarah Black sometimes called "Schwartze" is a nice slightly flattened, deep purple sprawling plant. Productive with a sweet taste.
Green Varieties
Aunt Ruby's German Green $3.50

A mid to late season, green tomato. With exquisite sweet/tangy flavour. My current favourite. Indeterminate. Heirloom. Top 10.
Evergreen $3.50
Very dynamic flavour, green/gold when ripe. Med. fruit, late season, one of the best tasting bar none. Sweet/tangy! Indeterminate. Heirloom.
Green Sausage $3.50

Green Sausage is a weird little plant, with unusual foliage, and peculiar little green sausage shaped tomatoes striped with yellow!
What more could you ask for? It's a short sprawling plant,and like many long pointy tomatoes, you need to watch out for blossom end rot.
Green Zebra $3.50
Very interesting, delicious, green/gold striped when ripe. Mid sized fruit, mid season, Indeterminate.
Pink and Purple Varieties
Anna Russian $3.50

A beautiful heartshaped pink tomato, on a somewhat delicate plant, but Very delicious and flavourful. Productive too.
Brandywine $3.50

The old Amish favourite from 1885. Brandywine is a cushion shaped pink beefsteak with a rich, delicious flavour and fine skin. A potatoleaf variety.
Cherokee Purple $3.50
A popular dark pink/purple variety much like Purple Perfect. It has the same beautiful smooth skin and tender texture. It's another good option that's worth a try. Best grown in the greenhouse here.
Eva Purple Ball $3.50

Eva Purple Ball is a round dark pink/purple tomato from Germany (1800's) 2 1/2 to 3inches.
Very good flavour and beautiful in the garden.
Good for market gardens.
Gregori's Altai $3.50

A large strong and sturdy plant that produces a large pink beefstake tomato with very good flavour and texture. Fairly early. From the Altai mountains of Siberia. This one is not often seen, but worth a try. First to ripen in the greenhouse last summer.
Ispolin $3.50
I have been growing this version of "Ispolin" -meaning "Giant", since about 1994. It is a flatish pink beefsteak type, that performs very well in our climate. Very delicious and productive
Despite the controversy of which is the original Russian Ispolin, the Red or the Pink, this one works well for me!
King Umberto $3.50

Beautiful, 2 inch rose coloured oval tomatoes. Very good flavour. Productive, often 7 on a branch, dries well. Indeterminate. Heirloom.
Oxheart $3.50

The Pink Oxheart has been around since at least 1925. It has a pointed heart shape, pink skin and a wonderful, sweet, delicious flavour. It is fairly early for a large tomato, but we usually grow it in the greenhouse.
Prudens Purple $3.50

Prudens Purple is often compared to Brandywine. It is a similar dark pink, potatoleaf variety. Very good flavour, and very beautiful.
Purple Calabash $3.50

Wierd, flat, pleated, purple/green. Ugly or beautiful depending on your perspective! but delicious, dynamic flavour. Late season. Indeterminate. Endangered. Very old.
Purple Perfect $3.50

Purple Perfect is a lovely and productive dark Pink/purple tomato, with smooth flawless skin, and a tender texture. Sweet flavour and good acid balance. Fairly early and truly worth a try.
Zapotec $3.50

Ancient, bell shaped, ridged and beautiful. Pink late season. The Zapotec people still grow this one in Mexico. Looks remarkable sliced on a plate! Indeterminate, Heirloom. Top 10.
Yellow and Orange Varieties
Aurega $3.50

A deep apricot orange sweet tomato, with a rosy interior. About 2" in size. Ripens fairly early. Very productive and reliable. Said to originate in Switzerland, I've seen it spelled "Auriga" too. I love this one. Indeterminate, Endangered.
Top 10
Earl of Edgecombe $3.50
There's a whole story about how the Earl took tomatoes with him when he received his "Earlhood" in England! (Now that's one proud tomato grower!)
Anyway, It is a great tasting tomato. A beautiful gold colour and sweet tangy flavour. Around 4 inches. Mid size plant although mine tend to me smaller. I like it a lot!
Manyel Moons $3.50

Beautiful variety, mid to late season. Native North Americans were said to be growing this one at the time of contact with Europeans. Med/large, bright clear yellow, very productive, mild flavour.Performs great in the field. Determinate
Lillians Yellow Heirloom $3.50

Lillians Yellow Heirloom is a potato leaf variety that produces large lovely Yellow delicious tomatoes.Some getting over 1 lb. A sturdy plant with good production, and wonderful sweet/tangy well balanced flavour. Can be a bit late as with most of the very large ones, but in most years we can ripen them in the field. Well worth trying!
yellow bell $3.50
Yellow Bell is a long oval or "Plum" shaped, firm yellow. It looks beautiful in a basket with Rio Grande, or Black Plum. It is very productive and has a good, less acidic flavour. It holds well and doesn't deteriorate after harvesting.
Yellow Brandywine $3.50

Yellow Brandywine is not really related to the well known Pink Brandywine. It is a Potato Leaf variety with medium to large gold coloured tomatoes. Some say this is the best tasting yellow. I must say it is delicious,sweet, fruity
tangy and lovely to look at, but you'll have to determine if it's the best yellow!
Yellow Mandarin $3.50

I must say thanks to my friend Marsha for forcing me to grow this tomato after I said, "NO more tomatoes". It is very nice and I was impressed with the performance with the cold summer we had.
Beautiful, productive yellow/gold firm round 4inch tomatoes, with great flavour. I had to list them! What could I do? It's a good one!
Other Colours
Feuerwerk (New) $3.50

I'm including this variety simply because of the audacity of it's appearance! Orange and yellow pin stripes with white random scarring give it the look of a firework exploding. Outrageous. Not productive or delicious, and has a thick skin, but oh so pretty.
Vintage Wine (New) $3.50

Vintage Wine is so beautiful, I just had to list it. It has rose and yellow pin stripes when ripe.
Often these unusual colours or forms are not that productive but this one is an exception. Large indeterminate plants with high production in greenhouse.
Ananas Noir $3.50

Means "black pineapple" It is predominately green, with brownish splotches.-Quite odd. It's a large indeterminate plant, very productive, nice flavour, sweet but not tangy. Sort of mellow sweet.Very Unusual.
Chocolate Cherokee $3.50

Rare, Beautiful, 5" Milk Chocolate colour, rich flavour. Beautiful, and productive Mid-Late season, Indeterminate. Top 10.
Marizol Gold $3.50

Beautiful, delicious red/gold bicolour. Large fruit, mid to late season. We grow it in the greenhouse Indeterminate Endangered.

Tiger Tom $3.50
Reddish orange with yellow stripes. There are several varieties similar to this one but Tiger Tom produces best for me.A mid sized, indeterminate plant, unusual looking tomatoes that taste nice.

Sweet Peppers
25 seeds per pkg capsicum annum
All common peppers (capsicum annum)especially chiles will cross quite readily. If you want to save seeds from your peppers and you have more than one variety,you will need to isolate them from others. One way is to cover each variety with floating crop cover until fruit is set. Rocoto Amarillo will not cross with the others in the list. Peppers need at least 70 degrees to germinate.
Chervena Chuska $3.50

Last summer "Chervena" amazed us with it's performance in the field- with no protection. Wow!

Red Ruffle also was a heroic producer out in the field with no protection. We were amazed by how strong and productive it was. Beautiful dark red pleated heirloom. Wonderful, complex, sweet flavour. A sweet paprika type with thick walls. My very favourite pepper. Absolutely delicious!
Hot Chiles

Years ago, we noticed that our chilis were not as hot as they should have been when we grew the seed out. Apparently they need some stress to develop their heat. So, way less water and a less rich soil helps bring on the heat.
Cascabel $3.50

"Sleighbell chile" these plants grow about 1 1/2 to 2ft. for me, and produce beautiful round very hot "cherry" peppers. Thanks to my dear friend Rebecca Jehn for sharing these wonderful seeds. Used in Salsas and marinade.
Chihuacle Negro $3.50

A Beautiful dark brown Heirloom chile. Wonderful, complex, hot flavour. Look like little leather bell peppers. Used for "Mole Negro de Oaxaca".You won't find these in just any old seed catalogue.
Chile de Arbol $3.50

Long, thin, upward growing red chiles.The
plants look like little trees. Very beautiful in the garden. These chiles are very hot, similar to cayanne peppers, and do very well outside.
Jalapeno $3.50

Traditional flavourful hot chiles for fresh use.
I still love to add this one to fresh salsa for that great clean crisp spicy flavour. Lots of folks like to pickle these too, or dry and smoke them to make Chipotle a real treat.
Guajillo $3.50

Guajillo chilis are a mainstay in Mexican cooking, but are hard to get seed for here in Canada. I'm very happy to be able to offer them again this year after a great crop this summer.

I have grown this wonderful chile for many years and when people began asking for a good red chile for sauce I knew it was time to start offering this one. We always get a plentiful crop of 8-10 inch long rich flavoured chiles with a bit of heat, they make the best red sauce.
Piri Piri Chile $3.50

We are very excited to offer this famous little chili. This is the one used to make Piri Piri Chicken. We collected it in Coimbra and Evora farmers' markets while in Portugal. It needs to be started inside early and given protection,or preferably in the greenhouse, but it will produce hundreds of 1 inch extremely HOT red chilis.
**It can be hard to germinate without extra heat. We have had some customers complain, but I still want to list it- for the real chili afficianados.

The Sauce- 5-8 PiriPiri chiles, (or a mixture of PiriPiri and a less firey chile)1 cup olive oil,1/2 cup wine or cidar vinegar, 4 garlic cloves,a pinch of salt. Puree in a blender,let steep for a few days. Marinate chicken and grill. Mmmm. Keeps refridgerated, in a glass jar for 1 month
